FBHive keeps me up-to-date on Facebook

by Kristie Conner

picture-55I have just subscribed via Google reader to this new site called FBHive a resource for information on Facebook.  Normally, I would not subscribe to a service that is all about Facebook, but today I decided it is the best way to keep up on the multitude of issues that arise.  It seems to me and I don’t follow it all that intensely that there is always something going related to Facebook and privacy, fraud, etc …I have found that I have grown immune … because it went from Holy Cow they ‘own’ my content, to this community uprising, to changing it back and then every other week  since then it feels there is something else and I have grown bored by it all.  So, FBHive I am going to re-engage by subscribing to your feed!

Today’s news on Facebook — Private Facebook Information Accessible with a Simple Hack

I do have a question … why is it that Facebook has all these problems?  I am not a fan of MySpace, but rarely do I hear anything about privacy and fraud.  Is that because no one cares or because they have their act together?

Not a question, but a statement.  I do not put information on Facebook that I don’t want other to know!  Period.  Sure, I would like to know that when my setting are set to ‘private’ that means they are set to private and that some random hacker with a little bit of skill can not get my info, but I am really not that confident.  I would hope that every user is a bit cautious.

Back in February I wrote a blog post on how to keep your identity safe.  Social networks have so many great tools and advantages that to completely avoid them is not really an answer or solution … at least for me.  So, I try and take steps that will keep my identify safe.  These rules and guides don’t just apply to Facebook!  To read the Five Pointers for Keeping You Online Identity Safe.

Second, I changed my strategy … I use Multiply for all my family related items.  I am especially conscientious about any photo’s, writing or information sharing via the web related to my son.  I use Multiply.  To learn more about their privacy settings click here.
